15 thousand flock to Westwood Cross for the countdown to Christmas
An astounding 15 thousand people visited Westwood Cross this Saturday 25th November to watch the centre mark the beginning of Christmas with its wonderful Christmas lights switch on event. The day began with the spectacular arrival of Santa Claus who opened his new magical Grotto to the enjoyment of a throng of children. The Grotto will be open between now and Christmas Eve and tickets are available at Debenhams priced at £2.50. At dusk a beautiful lantern procession began its way through the mall, accompanied by local musicians Brew Ha Ha. Local children participated in the procession and provided a visual feast for the watching crowds. Children hand crafted their own lanterns in a series of arts workshops held at the centre earlier this month. Throughout the day, KMFM hosted a competition to win hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of shopping vouchers from Westwood Cross’ range of stores. David Plumb, Centre Manager at Westwood Cross said: “It was a magical day and such fun for the whole family. I’d like to thank everyone who took part, including all the children in the lantern procession and of course, Santa Claus! The grotto is becoming a huge success and it’s a delight to see so many smiling faces.” Johnny Lewis started the final countdown with the help of the crowd as Santa Claus and competition winners helped light up the malls and Christmas trees. The day’s events mark the start of a schedule of musical entertainment in the mall between now and Christmas, including The Salvation Army, St Peter’s in Thanet School and various local church choirs. Westwood Cross is home to over 35 fabulous stores, including Debenhams, Next, TK Maxx and Marks & Spencer. Whether you’re looking for glittering fashions, the latest homeware or the perfect gift, Westwood Cross is bound to have it.
