Despite the doom and gloom facing many shopping centres throughout the UK, footfall figures are up by an impressive quarter of a million this year at Vancouver Quarter, King’s Lynn. The astonishing increase is being attributed to exciting, fun events and the improving retail offer which has enhanced the shopping experience for families and other visitors.
Recent national newspaper reports suggest that many retailers are enduring their worst crisis in decades so the latest increase in footfall figures for Vancouver Quarter demonstrates the continuing success and resilience of a centre which is now on target to hit footfall figures well above £8 million this year.
Brad Curcillo, Vancouver Quarter manager attributes the success to the exciting events that have occurred throughout the year which have provided shoppers with free entertainment. These events include Money-opoly, a take on the popular Monopoly board game in which shoppers had the chance to win a brand new car. The Easter Egg Hospital Appeal and Easter fun day in which costumed bunnies handed out Easter eggs. ‘West Norfolk has Talent’, a take on Britain’s Got Talent, where talented individuals performed in live shows to win fantastic prizes was also very successful. Finally shoppers were wowed most recently by the spectacular appearance of the world-renowned number one Monster Truck ‘Big Foot’ as well as impressive performances by 8ft tall robot ‘Titan’, who starred in the launch of the Will Smith movie i-Robot.
Another reason for the success is the expansion of the centre with exciting new stores such as the underwear store Camille and the gadget and gizmo store Toys4Boyz which had a fantastic futuristic family fun event to celebrate the opening. With new shops opening within the next few months the centre continues to grow and prosper, offering shoppers a variety of choice. The centre has more exciting events planned for the October half term and the Christmas holidays, including a thrilling Trick-or-Treat evening for Halloween and an Ice skating rink and Santa’s Grotto for Christmas.
Vancouver Quarter Manager Brad Curcillo, who has only been at the Centre for one year says “ I am thrilled with the news and very proud of what the Vancouver Quarter has achieved this year, our aim has been to give back to consumers, creating family fun events and activities, this is clearly proving to be very popular. All I can say is watch out for next year which will be bigger and better!”
