Free App for green- fingered foodies

The NEC Birmingham has teamed up with the BBC to launch a free App for visitors attending this year’s BBC Gardeners’ World Live and BBC Good Food Show Summer. The App will allow the 105,000 expected visitors to access information about both shows, which take place at The NEC from 15-19 June 2011.

This is the first time visitors are being offered information on their iPhones and iPads, and using GPS and WiFI, it will help them to navigate all aspects of the show. The App provides everything needed whilst on-site at The NEC; from local traffic advice to where to go for lunch, as well as being a handy tool to help users navigate around and gather exhibitor information on the move. This means that visitors will be able to find details about exhibitors and activities, so they can plan everything from watching a favourite chef in the BBC Good Food Show Summer Theatre, to finding a gardening expert at BBC Gardeners’ World Live. They can also keep up with exhibitors and other live show information via Twitter, direct from the App.

Rachel Poletti-Gadd from BBC Haymarket Exhibitions, which run BBC Gardeners’ World Live and BBC Good Food Show Summer, said:

“We are the first show to work with The NEC’s new App, which has been  launched to give visitors ‘live’ intelligence at their fingertips. The aim of the App is to result in less time searching for information and more time having fun and as there’s so much to take in across both shows, we wanted to make sure that our visitors didn’t miss out on the things they wanted to see.

“The App is perfect for the BBC Gardeners’ World and Good Food Show audiences, so it was taken on board for this year’s show. It’s important that we’re up-to-date with the digital audience and we’re really excited to see how this App will transform the customer experience.”

The App, which is powered by Black Pepper’s special software platform called Companion, provides audiences with all the information they need, where and when they want it. It also improves the ability to engage with the venue, exhibitors, celebrities and fellow visitors.

Kathryn James, Managing Director at The NEC said:

“Following the App’s launch at BBC Gardeners’ World Live and BBC Good Food Show Summer we plan to work with other organisers and look forward to introducing the benefits of this new technology to visitors and exhibitors across the wide variety of shows at The NEC.”

The BBC Gardeners’ World Live and Good Food Show Summer App is free and available to download from the iTunes App Store now. For more information on the App and the shows, visit  http://www.thenec.co.uk/whatson/bbcgardenersworld
