The joint runners up were Yasmin Liddar, Aged 10 from Kenilworth and William Sturrock age 11 from Cubbington; both won iPod shuffles, courtesy of ConocoPhillips.

People crowded into the medieval Great Hall at Warwick Castle on Saturday to hear the Choirs of St Mary’s demonstrate their singing skills as a taster for the forthcoming Christmas Carols at the Castle event. The grand finale was the concluding audition of the Jet Factor event, the regions’ own talent competition sponsored by locally based fuel suppliers ConocoPhillips.

Director of Music Thomas Corns said: “The standard of the Jet Factor competition was extremely high this year, but Joseph was the clear winner. Last year’s winner Toby Despioch-Abel, had a fantastic time performing at the event and we know that Joseph will have a similar triumph”.

Tony Conway, marketing manager, said: “As a business that very much operates at the heart of the community, we are thrilled to be in a position to support the Carols at Warwick Castle event and the Jet Factor Competition. This year’s Carols at Warwick Castle will to be an enjoyable evening for all and is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit”.

The competition provides an exciting dimension to a wonderfully festive evening, which signals the start of Christmas for thousands of people. With mulled wine, mince pies and hot food to sustain the crowds everyone is encouraged to join in the singing in the spectacular setting of Warwick Castle.

Tickets for the event are going like hot cakes but are still available on line via www.carolsatwarwickcastle.co.uk or http://www.warwick-castle.com/ and at several locations in Warwick including the Tourist Office, Claridges or Millers. The event on Saturday 18th December starts 7.30pm (Gates open at 6.45pm) with BBC Coventry and Warwickshire presenter Annie Othen leading the proceedings. Money raised from the evening goes to the charities supported by the Warwick Lions Club, The Rotary Club of Warwick and the Friends of St Mary’s Choir.

The event is supported by a large number of volunteers and leading local employers including ConocoPhillips and National Grid, and also receives the support of BBC Coventry and Warwickshire and locally based Marketing and PR Company LMMC.
