MP applauds Concept Mouldings and its life saving ‘bull bar’ Automotive manufacturer and safety specialist Concept Mouldings (www.conceptmouldings.co.uk) has been applauded for its revolutionary Endura Frontal Protection System (FPS) which has been proven to make many 4x4s, SUVs and LCVs up to 50 times safer in the unfortunate event of front end collisions with pedestrians and cyclists.
“New impact absorbing frontal protection systems will substantially reduce the damage and injury to pedestrians when unfortunately involved in front end collisions with large vehicles such as 4x4s. Congratulations to the manufactures such as Concept Mouldings who have put safety first. There must be no return to rigid bully bars fashion accessories that concentrated and multiplied the forces of collision at the level of a child's vital organs” said Paul Flynn, Labour MP, who’s theory is that a metal bull bar will kill a child if it is hit on a vital area, even if the vehicle is travelling at only 12 mph.
Endura works in harmony with the base vehicle, absorbing massive amounts of energy on impact, protecting pedestrians and cyclists from hard parts of the vehicle such as the engine, radiator and bonnet leading edge.
From 25th May 2007, the UK Minister of State for Transport confirmed it is now illegal to continue to manufacture, market non approved FPSs (no sale is necessary to be breaking the law) and sell FPSs that do not comply with the new EU legislation (Directive 2005/66/EC) for pedestrian protection. The maximum penalty to be imposed within the UK is 12 months in prison and a substantial £20,000 fine.
A FPS (www.frontalprotectionsystems.eu) includes products such as bull bars, nudge bars and A styled bars whether fitted to a vehicle as original equipment or marketed as a separate technical unit. Each product must now comply with a set of technical standards for both construction and installation which require them to enhance the safety of the vehicle for which they are designed to fit. Such products must now pass stringent pedestrian protection tests at an accredited testing facility (such as MIRA) and be granted type approval. This will outlaw wrap around metal bull bars and metal A Frames, as such products cannot achieve the requirement of an 18 per cent risk of injury (a 1000 hic defines an 18 % risk of injury to the head) to the pedestrian.
Concept Mouldings is the only European manufacturer known to have developed a full height FPS that complies with the new directive - the Endura FPS (www.endura-fps.com). Concept Mouldings also anticipates the thinking behind vehicle safety legislation (that will require vehicles to be safer for pedestrians) that is not due to be put in place until 2010 - 2012 by improving the performance of vehicles in respect to a child's head impact and adult injuries in the pelvic and abdomen area.
Endura not only offers protection for the urban, conscientious driver but also offers rugged protection for off road drivers. Endura is durable and helps reduce vehicle damage when involved in collisions with tree branches and brush and also when travelling through water at high speeds.
The widespread use of non-rigid FPSs such as Endura and the 2005/66/EC Pedestrian Protection Directive will reduce human tragedy and contribute to the target of the European Commission to reduce road traffic fatalities in the EU by 50% in 2010 compared to 2000. Ends |
