St Andrew’s innovative new healthcare centre to create an additional 400 jobs

Up to 400 jobs will be created in Northampton when an impressive new healthcare facility ‘William Wake House’ comes into full operation on the old Cliftonville school site.

Specialist mental health charity, St Andrew’s Healthcare, is in the final stages of completing the brand-new facility which will open in December 2010. The exceptionally designed, modern facility, which has an external façade of an imposing Georgian building, complements other historic St Andrew’s buildings within their Northampton campus while also incorporating specialist state-of-the-art facilities.

Over 150 staff will be appointed at William Wake House by December 2010 and 400 staff will be in place by December 2011. It is expected that a high proportion of the jobs will be taken up by local people giving a real boost to the economy of Northampton. As well as specialist roles for psychiatrists and psychologists there will be jobs for ward management staff, nurses and specialists including social workers, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. Other roles of general interest will include: healthcare assistants; teachers; secretarial; chef and hotel services roles including kitchen and housekeeping.

St Andrew’s currently employs more than 2,500 staff across the UK and its Northampton site is already a major centre of excellence and is also the head office for the charity. The growth of St Andrew’s is underpinned by innovation and dedication to research, by the St Andrew’s Academic Centre which works in partnership with the prestigious Kings College, London.

The William Wake House will be paving the way as a model for future developments. State-of-the-art technology combines with visionary construction to provide the very best in therapeutic environments.

Hospital director Rachael Jackson said: “The charity works closely with the NHS and this latest impressive facility here at Northampton will provide some of St Andrew’s most specialist services to date including: Deaf Services; Learning Disability; Acquired Brain Injury; Young; Adult and older Adult Mental Health Services and Asperger’s Syndrome.”

William Wake House is the most extensive neo classical building to be erected outside London for 60 years. The facility combines traditional materials with the latest healthcare standards, providing a unique range of services for rehabilitation and recovery in mental healthcare.
