The New Year sees work progressing apace on £75 million Lowesmoor development The snow before Christmas failed to significantly slow progress on the Lowesmoor development and the works are now virtually back on schedule.
The most visible aspect is the ASDA car park which is now 75 per cent complete with the steel frame, floors and lift shafts all installed. However, at the same time work is also progressing on the ASDA store with the final stages of preparation for pouring in the floor slabs.
Work is also taking place preparing the foundations for four further retail units to the south of the site between the ASDA car park and the ASDA store.
Selwyn Rowley of Carillion Richardson said: “The team has made remarkable progress in difficult conditions and continues to maintain the schedule very well.”
The Carillion Richardson team are also working closely with local archaeologists and historians to record the history of the site in parallel with the building works.
Currently archaeologists are working on a trench dating back to the Civil War and a public Open Day (cancelled on the 18th December due to snow) is to be rescheduled for Saturday 15th of January. The open hours will be from 11am to 3pm and archaeologists will be on hand to explain what has been revealed by the excavation and answer questions that people will have.
A broader Archaeology and History event relating to the development is being supported by Carillion Richardson and will be held in the Guild Hall between 1.30 and 5pm on the 29th of January. The opportunity will be for the public to learn more about the heritage of Lowesmoor and in particular the new insights gained from the investigations that have been facilitated during the development.. Topics covered will include the historical development of the site, the excavations of the Grainger Porcelain factory and the excavations of the Civil War ditch next to Silver Street.
