Tickets selling fast for carols at the castle event
Tickets are selling fast for the popular charity event Carols at Warwick Castle. The event will be held on Saturday 17th December 2010, marking the 40th anniversary within the dramatic surroundings of Warwick Castle. It is expected that the evening will be enjoyed by a capacity crowd of 2,500 people so visitors are advised to buy their tickets early to avoid disappointment. Advanced ticket prices are available until the 30th November, where prices are £5 for adults with free entry for children. From the 1st December tickets can be bought for £7 (children free). All proceeds raised go to the charities supported by the Warwick Lions Club, The Rotary Club of Warwick and the Friends of St Mary’s Choir. The event encourages full participation from attendees, featuring carol singing from the outstanding Choirs of St Mary’s Church accompanied by the Royal Spa Brass Band. The event will also be compered by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire’s radio presenter Annie Othen who will be getting everyone into the festive mood for Christmas. The event is particularly momentous for members of the committee who have been working on the project since it began 4 decades ago. Original committee members Alan Baker and Tom Bellamy reminisced: “In the first few years, Carols at Warwick Castle was a simple affair compared to today’s event. The choir sang on top of the Clarence Gate approached up steep spiral steps by torchlight. “There was improvised lighting and no protective barriers at the edge of the 20 feet drop. It was rather cold and slippery on a frosty night. The accompaniment was on a honky-tonk upright piano lent by the castle and played by Arthur Hilyer wearing mittens.” As a tribute to Warwick Castle, the Carols organisers (Warwick Lions Club, The Rotary Club of Warwick and the Friends of St Mary’s Choir) have announced that they will be planting a Christmas tree in the courtyard of the castle grounds to thank members of castle (past and present) for 40 years of commitment and support. The tree is due to be planted on the 28th November. Several Midlands based businesses support the Carols event to make it a spectacular and memorable event for all and help raise significant funds for the charities. Sponsors include fuel supplier ConocoPhillips/Jet, the flexible marketing agency LMMC based in Leamington Spa and energy suppliers National Grid based in Warwickshire. The event is also supported by Warwick Castle, and BBC Coventry & Warwickshire. For further information, visit: www.carolsatwarwickcastle.co.uk
