Turner Contemporary visits Westwood Cross The popular visual arts organisation Turner Contemporary is heading to Westwood Cross with a display of the latest design plans for the new gallery in Margate and special family focused workshop. The exciting display is open to the public from 9.00am onwards and the workshop will run between 14.00 and 17.00 on Friday 27th July. The workshop is part of a project called Generate which is focussed on encouraging children and their parents or carers to create art together. This fun and free workshop will be led by talented artist, Rob Mcdonald, and families can drop in at anytime between 14.00 and 17.00pm. Victoria Pomery, Director of Turner Contemporary commented “We are keen to engage as many people as possible with our work and the development of the new gallery, so having a presence at Westwood Cross is great for us and hopefully great for everyone that is able to participate in the workshop” Turner Contemporary began in the 1990s with the aspiration of several active members of the community that Margate should celebrate its links with Britain's best known painter, JMW Turner (1775-1851). Over recent years, Turner Contemporary has celebrated JMW Turner's association with Margate through a varied programme of exhibitions and events such as the forthcoming workshop and display taking place at Westwood Cross. Westwood Cross will prove to be an ideal location for such activities with its plethora of fabulous high street stores, including Debenhams, Next, TK Maxx and Marks & Spencer. With everything from fashion and homeware to gadgets, banking, beauty and fitness facilities, there is no easier place to shop and relax with friends.
