Eastern Continental Delicatessen

Food tastes in the UK have been enriched by wave after wave of influences from around the world. Many of products new regarded a quintessentially British originally came from the far corners of the globe and the process is continuing as waves of immigration bring in new tastes and food ideas.

Now the food of central and eastern Europe is set to make its mark in the UK in a similar way that it contributed to American food tastes in the 20th century: accounting for the hotdog, the bagel and Budweiser beer just to name a few.

Few can have missed the impact of the expanding European community and the growing number of people from these countries in our midst. Almost every other high street in this country now has a Polish corner shop and most supermarkets have dedicated sections selling eastern European delicacies from sausages and sauerkraut through to speciality bread and pickles. Continental markets in assorted towns around the country are starting to introduce the British public to the delights of dishes such as traditional Bigos (typical of Polish and Lithuanian cuisine) – a savoury stew of sauerkraut, cabbage and meat, best accompanied by Rye bread and potatoes and a glass or two of vodka or white wine.

Figures from the British Polish Chamber of Commerce have demonstrated trade growth of around 30 per cent in the past year highlighting the huge opportunity now presented by the opening up of Eastern Europe

ECDeli has been established to capitalise on the massive opportunity presented by eastern European food and drink. The company represents a bridge between the great cultures of eastern and western Europe and seeks to develop the opportunity for a range of delightful tastes to emerge.

With a mix of UK market knowledge and east European expertise the company is set to help companies on both sides realise the opportunities, identify the best products and avoid the pitfalls of a rush to meet growing customer demand.

The company already represents many of the leading food producers and gives the benefit of a one stop provider combining all that is best in central and eastern European cuisine with a view as to which products have the most potential for UK retailers, wholesalers C&Cs, caters and food manufacturers
